Lead Middleware Engineer

As a subject matter expert, the Lead Middleware Engineer is responsible for delivering healthy and stable infrastructure solutions by leading and participating in the research, design, planning, implementation and maintenance of new middleware solutions and technologies, providing knowledge transfer and support to operational steams, and for leading problem solving efforts for escalated issues.

Responsibilities:

    • Leads infrastructure projects to ensure delivery of high quality work, on time and on budget. Researches, designs, plans, and drives implementations of new middleware solutions and enterprise technologies.  In this role, you will lead the work, but you will also provide hands-on contributions to the execution of work by working on and completing project tasks.
    • Delivers stable and healthy infrastructure to operations teams and provides thorough knowledge transfer to operational support teams. Facilitates knowledge sharing by creating and maintaining detailed, comprehensive documentation and diagrams.
    • Performs capacity planning and continual performance improvement, creates, executes and maintains infrastructure readiness documentation, and transitions acceptance check lists to operational support teams.
    • Participates as a subject matter expert in project planning, design and maintenance of IT Infrastructure.
    • Maintains the enterprise infrastructure, including troubleshooting, administration, performance monitoring and optimization, capacity and continuity planning. Leads problem solving and troubleshooting sessions for the Linux Server environments and related supported applications.
    • Interacts with hardware and software vendors to ensure timely resolution to any issues or outages.
    • Responds quickly and effectively to escalated or P1 production issues and take responsibility for seeing those issues through resolution.
    • Analyzes existing IT operations and make recommendations for continual service improvement.
    • Participates in Post-Mortem meetings to discuss incidents, and recommend changes to avoid reoccurrence.
    • Consistently and proactively looks for opportunities to automate and consolidate open-source technologies, as well as to improve systems performance. Makes recommendations to upper management and lead full rollout and proper transition to operation teams.
    • Works on assigned problem tickets until possible root cause is identified and permanent solution implemented.
    • Provides on time, frequent well written narratives or status updates to management and/or customers during escalations, incidents, problems or projects tasks.

Qualifications: 

- Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline, plus a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant IT experience.   Formal degree could be waived for strong practical experience. 

- Candidates must have advanced experience with full life cycle middleware and infrastructure solutions engineering,  Redhat Linux , TOMCAT, and web server administration, including supporting development, performance test and production application server environments.  

- Experience using logging and monitoring tools such as SPLUNK and Nagios is required along with experience configuring and supporting tools such as Bamboo, Apache Maven and Puppet is required. 

- Candidates must have experience with JMS messaging,  Varnish and Redis caching, and have some experience with BASH scripting or coding in non-LISP descended programming language such as Python. Candidates should have experience producing technical documentation, working with change management systems and be familiar with ITIL principles and practices. 

- Exceptional customer service skills are required, in addition to extensive experience working in a team-oriented and collaborative environment. We are seeking candidates with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who are able to effectively prioritize, execute tasks and make necessary decisions in pressure situations.
