Description :
The Data Architect role is a technical leadership position that requires strong enterprise data integration and data modeling design skills and excellent communication skills. Accountability for the role includes developing and communicating data architectural roadmaps that support and fulfill the business strategy, and ensuring individual projects align with the larger roadmap goals. The objective of this role is to design and validate data solutions that are practical, flexible, scalable, reusable and strategic. These efforts enhance data quality, enrich access and provide business decision makers with information upon which they can make more accurate and effective decisions.
Specific responsibilities include:
· Partnership with multiple domain architects and business leaders to translate business strategy and requirements into data solutions that align with enterprise architecture frameworks and strategic direction in technical and business environments.
· Designing and validating data solutions which are achieved through the application of industry standard reference models and proven architectural principles, standards and governance.
· Developing and communicating architectural roadmaps that support and fulfill business strategy, ensuring individual projects align with the larger roadmap goals.
· Leading and directing matrix and virtual project team members with thoughtful analysis, option development, and project planning, effort estimation and execution rigor.
· Communicating technical direction, issues and tradeoffs to development staff, peers, business partners, project stakeholders and senior management.
· Provides technical leadership and influences data strategy across multiple projects.
· Participates in planning sessions for highly complex or critical systems with clients, business analysts and team members providing technical guidance based on data management industry standards.
· Recommends data strategies and provides technical guidance to project teams, translating business and technical requirements into cross-discipline technology architecture and solution designs.
· Participation in defining strategies, use cases and providing feedback on practice leadership and reference architectures, continually improving existing models and frameworks.
· Accountability for providing solution design phase data artifacts for architecturally significant projects, data governance and oversight to ensure proper use of information as a corporate asset.
· Responsibility for the establishment and efficient implementation of data architecture frameworks within their projects, creation of Conceptual Data Models, and the creation of project scope Data Flow diagrams.
Qualifications
· In-depth technical training, Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in MIS, Computer Science or related discipline.
· 15+ years overall IT experience in programming/systems analysis and related business experience.
· 5+ years of demonstrated experience in one or more of the following data management disciplines: data governance, conceptual, logical and physical data modeling,
metadata management and/or data integration.
· 3+ years providing information architectural direction to project development teams or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
· Excellent verbal, written, and listening skills across multiple audiences from highly technical team members to business consumers at the highest levels of management.
· Experienced with systems utilizing high volume and complex data processing, database platform selection and optimization, metadata management suites and OLAP technologies.
· Solid understanding and experience with formal project life cycle methodologies, both waterfall and agile.
· Knowledgeable regarding data stewardship, data quality, ETL and business intelligence tools, and techniques used with VLDB. Certifications a plus.
· Demonstrated planning, change management, consulting and communication skills, analytical ability and negotiation skills.
· Detail-oriented, self-motivated individual with strong analytical and research skills.
· Must be a team player with demonstrated customer and delivery focus.
· Property Casualty Commercial Lines or Group Benefits experience desired.
