Java developer Position in NY

Role: Java Developer
Location: NY
Duration: 6+ months

SCOPE OF SERVICES: 

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Senior Java Developer will be responsible for:

  • Designing the overall technical solution, including integration specifications between the LARS portal, TAMIS, and the DOF CPRS payment system;
  • Providing technical expertise, estimates, and recommendations to project management;
  • Executing all Java/J2EE coding to meet business requirements and in accordance with industry best practices, DoITT standards, and Citywide security policies;
  • Participating  in requirements and JAD meetings as necessary;
  • Creating security accreditation documentation,  and running AppScans;
  • Conducting Unit Testing, supporting Quality Assurance,  and coordination of defect remediation;
  • Communicating risks and issues to the Development Lead
  • Develop components for complex features
  • Coding and designing application
  • Using best practices for development
  • Perform unit testing and fixes during testing Phase
  • Communicate risks and issues to project management and agency
  • Use industry best practices and ensure implementation meets agency security and data integrity guidelines
  • Assist Development Lead in documenting deployment and operational procedures
  • Develop runbook and technical documentation
  • Help with production deployments
  • Assist QA with detecting and fixing defects.

Deliverables:

  • Application source code
  • Automated Unit test suite demonstrating that delivered source code meets functional and non-functional requirements, where applicable.
  • Assist in creating documentation such as but not limited to: Technical Design, Run-Book, Security Accreditation, and Application Setup Instructions.

 

MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

The selected consultant is expected to possess:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in Java/J2EE development building large-scale enterprise web applications;
  • Extensive experience with Spring and Hibernate
  • Strong Experience in MVC and using other design patterns
  • Strong knowledge of data integration technologies and processes;
  • Experience with formal SDLCs and development methodologies
  • Experience with Oracle WebLogic 10.x+ or similar application server
  • Experience working with Oracle Web Center Suite or a similar Portal
  • Experience with Ant
  • Experience with testing tools and techniques such as JUnit and continuous integration
  • Knowledge of HTML, XML, JavaScript and CSS
  • Knowledge of secure coding standards and best practices
  • Must take initiative, be a decisive decision-maker and show confidence in decisions made
  • Must be able to see tasks through to completion without significant guidance
  • Must have experience with Subversion or CVS
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate to all project members and stakeholders;
  • Must be a team player who works well with technical and non-technical resources;
  • Solid Experience with relational databases preferably Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server;
  • Solid experience in XML Technologies (XML, XSL, XSD);
  • Solid knowledge of testing tools and techniques;
  • Must be able to provide documentation on their work.

 

DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE :

 

  • Previous experience working on TLC initiatives and LARS development
  • Familiar with TLC business processes
  • Previous experience working with NYC government agencies

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be available to work the hours on the contract and have no plans to take leave during the first 4 months of the contract. Must have a visa valid for the duration of the assignment.
