This position is for a MySQL DBA for a federal organization in Washington DC with several thousand end users. The successful candidate is expected to support the upgrade and migration of existing MySQL databases from versions 3.5 and 4 to 5.5. This will include designing a MySQL high availability solution, updating and developing scripts/settings/automation, and perform gap analysis. The position is on-site in downtown DC. Effective written and verbal communication is as essential as technical knowledge.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to reviewing the current MySQL environment and documenting recommendations, as well as designing, installing, configuring and testing MySQL high availability solutions.

Provide an assessment and expert recommendations for migration of all of the MySQL databases currently supported.

Provide an assessment, gap analysis, and expert recommendation for migration of MySQL databases from versions 3.4 and 5 to version 5.5;

Review, enhance, and execute MySQL modernization strategies and procedures;

Design, install, configure and test MySQL high availability solutions;

Enhance and automate DBA Operational and Maintenance procedures;

Review, update, and refine scripts;

Provide MySQL DBA support and problem resolution support for developers;

Implement MySQL High Availability (HA) partitioning and replication features;

Control and monitor disk space allocation for multiple databases;

Provide documentation and knowledge transfer.

Qualifications:

•BS in Computer Science and 5-7 years as a Senior DBA or equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of a topical Bachelor's Degree;

•Experience with MySQL High Availability (HA);

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

•Experience with MySQL 3.4 or 5 and 5.5;

•Experience with SQL 2008, 2008r2 and 2012;

•Experience with assessment, gap analysis, and new solution design;

•Experience writing scripts;

•Experience providing written documentation, presenting training or knowledge transfer sessions

MUST HAVE's

•Experience with MySQL High Availability (HA)

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills

•Experience with MySQL 3.4 or 5 and 5.5

•Experience providing written documentation, presenting training or knowledge transfer sessions
