Re: [DIYbio] Fwd: DARPA Selects Hackerspace Space Program for contract negotiation

For me, the acceptance of DARPA funding for this project has been one of the most depressing and disappointing pieces of recent news.

In one swoop, there goes the legitimacy and empowering spirit of one of the most visible "Citizen Space" programs. They've entered a cycle of grant dependence from which they are unlikely to emerge unscathed. The message will become "You can get to space, but only with government backing".
