Open letter to the BBF Regarding Fundraising and Exclusion

Dear sir/madame,
I regret that I cannot justify a donation to the BioBricks Foundation, as it appears to me that the foundation is not fulfilling its stated goals. The BBF aims to make biological engineering more "Open" and "Accessible", and yet non-institutional biologists are entirely denied access to the parts registry, and registration for IGEM is extremely expensive per person.

I hope that in time the registry will adopt a more open and accessible policy towards dissemination and exchange of biological code. Until then, my limited funding is better spent replicating the biological parts I need and cannot yet access.

Yours sincerely,
Cathal Garvey
