I would like to introduce southern blot techniques to high school students. I recently purchased OpenPcr and make a gel box kit. My goal is to introduce DNA extraction and Southern blot Analysis using household stuff. No molarity measurements, no micropippetes, no keeping a note book. I want to set their minds free first so they can truly appreciate molecular biology. First get them passionate then all the technicalities of being a scientist can come later! Atleast, that is my mind set...
I know you can do Southern Blot using household stuff, but can someone point to a resource or give me advice on how? Also, I need at least 20 interesting experiments I can introduce to them throughout the year. What are some basic experiments I can do? (FYI, I also have a centrifuge to seperate DNA after lysing)
