[DIYbio] Meat Speciation for Newbies

Hi All,

A few people and I would like to do some meat speciation tests, primarily as a learning project for PCR. We don't know anything about primer design at all, though, and would appreciate any pointers at all to help us get started. We've got the machine, reagents, and electrophoresis figured out, but this looks like the hardest part right now. How do we get from here to a primer which will amplify sequence specific to, for instance, cows?

I fully expect we'll need to do quite a bit of reading and messing around, which is fine, but we just don't know where to start.

Thanks for any help,

Ewan
