[DIYbio] Live science

Last Friday we went to the Observe Hack Make (http://www.ohm2013.org) festival to introduce the audience to DIYBio. These kind of events are ideal for disseminating biohacking, since everyone there is able to build or hack. In the same tent where we did DNA fingerprinting, so other guys were playing with lasercutters, soldering circuits and making jewelry. OUtside of the hardware hacking tent drones were flying over, Julian Assange gave a video speech and lots of other stuff was going on, so you get the picture.

The first part of the workshop focussed on forging DNA fingerprinting and after that we made geobacter microbial fuel cells. After making these mud reactors a couple of participants immediately brought in an Arduino and wired them up. So now this workshop is still continuing in the cloud :) thus turning this life science workshop into "live science"! The voltage produced by the microbial fuel cells can be found here https://xively.com/feeds/1115458373

A small report on what we did can be found here: http://waag.org/nl/blog/building-bio-electricity-reactors-ohm and some pictures of the workshop: http://www.flickr.com/photos/waagsociety/sets/72157634950553009/
