Job Title : Enterprise Monitoring Engineer
Location : Seattle, WA
Duration : 6+ month contract
 
Description:

The Enterprise Monitoring Engineer will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, and support for monitoring of the infrastructure and application environments.
 
Primary responsibilities include:
Participating in a 24x7/365 Enterprise Monitoring Engineering team within a SaaS hosting environment
Supporting current and potential enterprise monitoring solutions and IT tooling (SCOM, Nagios, SolarWinds Orion, PNP, Cacti, OpenNMS, Gomez, Concord, Splunk, Tivoli, etc.)
Provide day-to-day administration support of tools the team supports and ensure the availability, performance, and security of the overall monitoring platform
Research new technologies and products related to end-to-end application and infrastructure monitoring for engineering new monitoring solutions
Develop and manage components of enterprise monitoring in accordance with business demands and new application and infrastructure requirements
Develop and manage cross-platform monitoring architecture for virtualized compute and storage infrastructure and develop rules, alerts, and notifications in a heterogeneous environment
Develop and manage components of application performance monitoring (APM) and develop rules, alerts and notifications.
Develop availability and capacity monitoring and reporting process for all systems and applications
Create and maintain operational dashboards for both real-time and trended views for multiple levels of users (Operations, Engineering, Development, Business and Executive).
Collaborate with business, R&D, infrastructure, operations and other key partners to ensure operational readiness of new solutions and ongoing optimization/improvement of existing solutions
Create and define monitoring operational standards and configurations
 
Required Skills:
Requires at least 5 years of experience in the monitoring and tools engineering industry with additional experience in systems, network or application administration.
Required strong working experience of SCOM, Nagios, PNP, Cacti, and SolarWinds Orion.
Preferred working experience or knowledge of Gomez, OpenNMS, Concord, Splunk, and Tivoli.
Strong technical experience of an application hosting IT environment (including web servers, database, virtualization, storage, load balancers, firewalls).
Strong technical experience with industry standard (SNMP, agent based, remote polling) monitoring technologies, with the proven capability to implement and support complex environments.
Strong working knowledge of server, networking, backup, storage, power, and virtualization tools and concepts as they relate to monitoring.
Strong working knowledge of network protocols and services (TCP/IP, SNMP, SSH, DNS)
Strong working experience in Linux and Windows systems administration
Experience in multiple scripting languages is preferred (Powershell, Perl, etc.)
Understanding of underlying application platforms (IIS, Tomcat, WebLogic, SQL, Oracle, LDAP, Active Directory)
Experience defining, creating, and supporting monitoring dashboards for various levels of users and providing reporting and status information clearly and at actionable levels.
Excellent analytical skills, organizational, time management, and problem solving skills.
Strong understanding and knowledge of ITIL framework best practices for IT Service Management.
BS/BA degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent experience and a minimum of 7 years related work experience.
5-7 years of experience in a System Administration, NOC, or IT operations role with expert troubleshooting ability.
CCNA is preferred or at minimum working understanding of networking and Internet protocols.
MCSA/MCSE is preferred or at a minimum 3-5 years of Microsoft Server Operating Systems administration
LPIC/RHCE is preferred or at a minimum 3-5 years Linux systems administration
Excellent communication (written & verbal), planning, interpersonal, project, and time management skills required.
Excellent customer service skills and service oriented approach.
Detail-oriented individual capable of working both independently and within a team.
Ability to work in group setting and independently; ability to adjust to changing priorities.
Strong ability to write clear and concise technical documents and presentations
Must have schedule flexibility to support project deadlines and goals in support of the business
