[DIYbio] North Carolina Biotech

I'm a biology and biotechnology instructor at a NC community college in Shelby NC, situated between Charlotte and Asheville. We have a state grant to expand our biotech curriculum. Our courses are intended for anyone with an interest in biotechnology, as well as undergraduates who plan on pursuing further studies in biology at the university level.

I will be teaching Intro to Biotech this summer, and I hope to make this an extremely hands-on, laboratory techniques course. We will be covering mammalian and plant cell culture techniques, bacterial cultures, plasmid construction and cell transformation. These projects will cover basic laboratory techniques including DNA gel electrophoresis, DNA/RNA isolation, western blots, and introductory microscopy.

We are also interested in helping anyone who would like to use our lab space for an independent study project under the guidance of our biotech faculty.

I would love to know if anyone in the DIY Bio community has any suggestions or questions about the curriculum covered in our program.
