[DIYbio] Inexpensive Reagents and/or Equipment in SoCal?

Hi,
I'm attempting to stop having to mooch off of my biomed teacher for my DIYbio fix, and expand my capabilities in my home lab (from very small) by building up a collection of equipment and reagents, or knowledge of where to get them on the cheap,(because unfortunately, I'm rather strapped for cash). It would be absolutely wonderful if anyone would share any ideas on how to get/make some biotech equipment inexpensively and possible sources for consumables and the like.
Thank you, DIYbio
-Nick
