I have been working on trying to make a complete easy front-to-back
system for microfluidic product, with the intent on DNA synthesis.
Recently I bought this commercial blu-ray laser (XBox of some sort
replacement) that these folks reverse-engineered all the controls for,
and then built a circuit-board to enable all functionality and control
for anyone:

This will achieve sub-micron spot and feature sizes, enabling
microfluidic circuitry to be written in photoresist. I have, for now,
purchased a used spin-coater, but I did previously find a vacuum
bearing for about $11 which would enable a spin-coater to be built
with a BLDC motor and simple vacuum pump pretty easily. I have been
focusing more on the CAD and CAM things lately (I have local changes
that I have been meaning to push, such as a 3-finger peristaltic pump
model):

some kicad models (electrical not fluidic) converted to g-code,
direct-laser exposed photoresist which I spincoated:

and after inverting the exposure and trying again:

there is also chatter here once in a while:
