Dear all,
Having been informed by Mac that I'm entirely mistaken, it would be
wrong of me not to issue an apology in the same format as my original
letter!
I had believed that the Biobricks Foundation and the Parts Registry (the
foremost example of biobricks usage in the public eye) were one and the
same, and this confusion had marred my opinion of the Biobricks
Foundation because of the seeming disconnect in the attitudes and
policies of the two efforts.
In fact, this confusion had made me wary of considering the Biobrick
Public Agreement for my own genetic work; I was instead preparing to
find, write or commission another license on the presumption that the
BPA did not offer sufficient "share-alike" provisions (given the manner
in which the iGEM foundation restricts sharing); I will revisit the BPA
and reconsider it for usage now.
Given that my means are limited for the time being, my donation will not
be very substantial. But, donate I shall.
My apologies,
Cathal Garvey

The BBF aims to make biological engineering more "Open" and "Accessible", and yet non-institutional biologists are entirely denied access to the parts registry, and registration for IGEM is extremely expensive per person.
