They report doing cultures with it, so there must be something missing from
your take on it. They won't get to 1 Amp with a 40 Ohm heater -- that would be 40 volts and this is
a low voltage looking system. Maybe the whole thing is usually in a low air flow clear plastic box.
maybe they put on some insulating covers when they use it.
Why say they are to be ignored? You're not putting out anything similar/better.
I think it is a good proof of concept. I can believe they get +/- 2 deg C
temperature control. They do mention heat transfer paste, so they discovered
the low heat flow you suspected and did a first cut fix of it.

I'm not responding to any more eVOLVER bashing, only constructive criticism.
