Re: Questions about the microscope needs of the community

I know most of the folks on this group are interested in mags of >100X
for cell analysis, but for my needs, I need a good dissection scope of
20-30x to work for my insect experiments. Making a binocular scope
from scratch is more challenging than monocular, but we like
challenges. However, colleagues and friends have suggested not to
spend any time on microscope development, as that technology is
already commoditized (we all want low cost amps, PCRs, centrifuges,
etc, but getting low cost microscopes is pretty easy).

A low-cost binocular dissecting scope is not commoditized though. See:

Notice we are using an off-the-shelf monocular. Not good for
dissection. Thoughts?
