Amp is not stable at higher temperatures. Make sure you're waiting for your LB-agar to cool to almost gelling temperatures before adding it, quickly mixing, and pouring your plates. Check out http://openwetware.org/wiki/Ampicillin for more details...

The amp does not work because there is a lawn of bacteria on each plate!!!!
I'll try again with 500mg of amp-powder. Maybe it's just far too weak. Hopefully.
