Re: [DIYbio] Re: Making my own incubator inexpensively

All the more reason to design your experiments to be easily replicated.

I especially appreciate it when people give ranges for values instead of
specifying a particular value.

Incubate for 2 to 3 hours at 37 to 41 C, or until opacity drops by about 50%.
That lets me know that it is not critical to keep the temperature super stable,
or the timing constant, since all we are doing is growing a few more bugs,
and exactly how many we have is not important. If all we are going to do is
check to see if they glow, who cares if they incubated for 2 hours or 3?

"Stir the eggs over medium heat until firm" is a reasonable recipe for
scrambled eggs. "For the perfect soft-boiled egg, sous vide at 64 Celsius
for at least two hours, or overnight if you plan an early breakfast."

"Bake the cake for 40 minutes at 350 F or until a toothpick inserted in the center
comes out clean."

So would that $10 RH + Temp, calibrated at the factory and giving

probe?

No, you need to spend on real cal. against standards to
replicate results in different locations.  If some of the folks
with cal services could characterize enough of them, you might
start trusting ones straight from the factory, but don't believe
the chip makers claims except where they guarantee specs.  Not
on a brochure.
