Re: [DIYbio] Culturing endophytes - and time to just start sharing what projects I have

Entirely off-topic, but if there's a WordCamp anywhere near you, it's a good, low-cost way of learning about WordPress http://central.wordcamp.org/

Hi everyone, this list and the people on it have become a great resource for me over the past few years I have been posting.  I have made some friends from it, both online and in person.  It's great to know there are other passionate and dedicated people out there, all willing to share information and the joy of science with each other and the world.

One of the problems I have with sharing info on projects is that I tell myself, "Oh I'll just wait until I get all the video footage and pictures together, edit them, then do a huge writeup, and it'll be perfect".  What happens is, I end up with tons of video footage, tons of pictures, some written descriptions, but I always hold back until it is "perfect and polished".  That has basically left me with not much to show for what I've done, so I've decided to alter some things and just start sharing data and pictures/video as I go!  No more waiting for the perfect write-up because...nothing is ever perfect.

I launched a website that is basically just a blog at the moment, but I hope to include lists of protocols and experiments others have done via direct links or .pdfs, product reviews on things like miniPrep kits or cheap reagents, and links to useful websites (safety protocols, openwetware, open labspaces)

I just finished my degree in January and I have been pouring most of my free time & what little money I had into pursuing research on endophytes.  These are bacteria and fungi that live symbiotically within higher plants, and have been shown to produce a wide range of secondary metabolites.  So, I'm trying to find some myself!

Here is my website which one of my friends I am doing some research with will probably start posting on as well.

I'm still learning wordpress, so bare with me for any formatting issues (like why you can't click a high rez link to only right-aligned photos)

Feel free to link to it, if you would like to have your site linked to, message me as well!  I am trying to put together a list of useful resource links, so that when people ask on here "where to start" we can send them to one place that contains all sorts of information, rather than back-linking to old group posts.

Lastly, if anyone on here studies medicinal chemistry, secondary metabolites, or endophytes, I would really like to talk to you.  I am looking for a graduate program to enter and would very much appreciate any help or pointers I could get as to some good programs and PI's.

Thank you all for reading and being a great community.

Oh and one last thing, for anyone that is interested in Endophytes, I saw this documentary at 3 am one night on a PBS station 2 years ago, it changed my life and I've been reading about these every since and want to make them my life's study.  Specifically the work of Dr. Gary Strobel
