Thanks for clearing that up David, sounds like the licensing is pretty open, but also gives the creator a chance to potentially make something from it, which is good incentive. There is some real warrant then to put in a lot of effort and come up with a really great gene design because...you get it synthesized for free and can then potentially do something useful with it!
