I just turn the key to off for a few seconds (some fan keeps running during this time but the compressors stop). Then back on, and it resumes cooling beyond -30. Makes me think it is a control problem of some sort, but no warning lights come on other than the temperature alarm.

is overheating somewhere? oil leaked out (evaporated) or all gummed up
somewhere?
