launched the SPARK competition to reimagine the chemistry set for the 21st Century! (www.reimaginechemset.org).

 

The SPARK Competition launches today, and remains open until January 7th, 2014.

he SPARK Competition: Reimaging the Chemistry Set for the 21st Century (SPARK stands for Science Play and Research Kit) is designed to solicit ideas and prototypes of engaging, curiosity-driven experiences that catalyze a passion for science and engineering (even if it is not identified as such!) in the same way that the classic chemistry set did for earlier generations (including Gordon Moore and Bob Noyce). Entries are in no way limited to chemistry. Rather, we are looking for ideas that span the range and flavors of science and engineering, ones that capture the chemistry set's spirit of engagement through playful discovery, imagination, figuring things out, and off-script exploration.  We're interested in ideas that could inspire children of all ages – 8 to 88.  In addition to gathering new ideas and prototypes, we have a more ambitious aim of sparking a conversation about the importance of these kinds of experiences as critical early seeds for growing children's inherent curiosity, imagination and wonder and cultivating lifelong engagement with science and engineering, regardless of career choice.
