[DIYbio] Re: Experiment.com

Hey hey, this is Cindy. I'm one of the founders of Experiment!

A friend forwarded this thread to me, and it's exciting to see interest from you guys. My co-founder and I both have a synthetic biology background and are iGEM alum too.

If you guys have any questions feel free to email me directly at cindy@experiment.com. If you're in San Francisco you're more than welcome to stop by our office to meet the team!

If any of you are at SXSW this weekend, I'm going to be on a panel discussing the indie science revolution Saturday at 3:30pm (www.experiment.com/sxsw), so come on by and say hi! We do have plans to make research accessible to anyone anywhere in the world, so if you have ideas of how we can start to execute on that with the DIYbio community we're listening to the community!

Has anyone mentioned the crowdsourcing site, experiment.com. You can review the current 140 projects shown to see the scope. And they don't have to be large projects; see gel imager.  If you support a project, you gain access to progress reports, but after the deadline you can't contribute to gain this access. Something for fence-sitters to keep in mind. I contributed to one project, but it may not reach its goal in which case the contribution is returned and I can use it again, elsewhere. I was a little concerned, at first, about the qualifications of the researchers and couldn't find any details, but now see the site provides background on each project. Also, the site has been around for several years, starting out with the name "microryza" .
