Is there any experimentally verified evidence of death by metabolic burden in any organism? Simply put has anyone observed something dying via massive energy loss due to transgene expression over expression?
I keep hearing speculation about this subject in over expression vectors especially on the topic of glowing plants. I could imagine ruling out things like toxicity due to accumulation of protein x in the cytosol would be difficult. How would one go about proving that the cause of death was in fact depletion (sink larger than source) of ATP by transgene hijacking?
