Sure, it's goog enough for goog research.
Some open source tools for collaboration that
can be set up to work with SSH keys so you don't have to deal with logins all the time
would be very nice, and not having to free-open publish everything in real time is
good for lots of work also. I don't like my half balked ideas going out to the world.
I like to polish them some first. Even if only one in ten bio hackers runs a server
of some kind that should be plenty for this style of groupware to do bio.
Depending on Google because it's easy is not the only way.
Google data has been hacked before. Google data can go away.
The open source database driven web app can have the idea of
backups built into it and at every server or even every user's workstation a complete copy can be kept updated every data
transaction. It would be hard to lose data if done with such a system.
