[DIYbio] A-new-DIY-Biolab-in-Los-Alamos,New-Mexico

Fellow DIYBio enthusiasts,

We are starting the first DIY Biolab in New Mexico...located in Los Alamos (of all places!). For those of you who are not familiar with the history of Los Alamos, NM, it is considered the place where WWII was won (Google "Manhattan project" and watch the show "Manhattan" on Hulu plus).

That being said, we have embraced the DIY Bio movement as an open science education tool for everyone.
New Mexico has 2 major national labs and ranks #1 in the number of PhDs and engineers as a percentage of the workforce of any state in the US, yet we rank far below average in science education (46 out of 50 states).

NM is still mostly a rural state and the idea of hands-on biotech education for some kids is not even on their radar or possible...and we aim at changing that thanks to the DIY Bio movement.

If you want to learn more, please visit our website at biodidact.net. Your feedback is encouraged and welcome.

We are already registered, we have a space and some rather expensive equipment we were able to get from various lab auctions and ebay...all this using our personal funds. We are therefore grateful for the various Kickstarter campaigns making available cheaper DIY hardware.

We are now getting ready to start our demos and workshops to introduce our community to biotechnology but we need to get pipettes for the public. We have launched a small local CF campaign. It is going slow...I guess we are not great at advertising.
