[DIYbio] Re: I'm working on a novel that mentions DIY bio

I really like the idea of the house. Thank you! You know the artist who built a house from mushrooms. https://ww2.kqed.org/quest/2014/08/26/a-house-made-from-mushrooms-an-artist-dreams-of-a-fungal-future/

Hybrids yes now you reminded us of that for example grapefuit and strawberry (fragaria ananassa) are hybrids between other citrusfruts respective wild strawberries. In forest you apparently can find hybrides between lingonberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea) and bilberry (V. myrtillus) and also between Arctic bramble (Rubus arcticus) and stone bramble (R. saxatilis). Sure there must be people trying to grow hybris like that for fun. (Sorry if I was too tedious)

I have written about plants for the smilpy reason I have more knowlowage (but still quite limit) about plants. But sure biorecators are certainly cool.

Unsing biotech to make oil, Dyson in Our biotech future (2007) went so far as sugesting trees that makes oil.http://www.nybooks.com/articles/2007/07/19/our-biotech-future/ But fun that you should mention it, the last thing I made at the university was a powerpoint about microbes with microbs engineerd to produce isobutanol or other long chain alcohols.
