Up to my knowledge, Lasing has not been
observed in biological systems.
I wonder, what species could have an advantage of it ...
I'm thinking, maybe blinding or killing some prey fish
by strong illumination to the eyes or the brain if the fish
is transparent ...
Communication across vast distances ...
Anyways, artifically it could be possible: If the Reflectin
(or whatever protein) self-arranges to a linear, (optically) excitable
medium with long-living excited state, surrounded by a comparably
intense excitation source ... at least a thinkable idea ...
"the self-assembling protein-laser"
Has anyone tried to do excite GFP to stimulated emission yet ?
Cheers, Matthias
