Job Description:

Synopsis of Role:

Client is looking for a Web Applications Java/J2EE Developer with strong experience performing design, development, and testing of enterprise systems and applications. This is a full-lifecycle development position. Strong MySQL and LINUX skills needed. This position will be making enhancements to Sakai, which is a very large Java-based system, with components from many universities. Accordingly, applicants should have substantial experience in making robust and maintainable modifications to large, complex software systems and be able to work comfortably in the framework of whichever system of Sakai their tasks use. Communication is important in addition to the required technical skills.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

•              Integrates and customizes tools into Sakai environment

•              Develops custom tools and applications based on key requirements

•              Write detailed specifications, write code, complete programming, testing and debugging of applications

•              Conduct analysis, design, programming and modifications of software applications and customer applications

•              Develop and/or support integrations from other core systems

•              Works closely with internal and external customers to serve as Sakai expert

•              Monitors and maintains application security.

•              Identifies and resolves root causes of issues and provides tier-3 support to internal and external customers.

•              Researches trends and methodology to improve the University's application

Qualifications:

REQUIRED SKILLS:

•              Bachelor's degree

•              2-8 years of professional experience

•              Knowledge of and experience with applications including but not limited to the following:

o             Web Development technologies: JSF, RSF, JSP, XML, HTML, XHTML, MVC,  Facelets, Spring, Velocity, Wicket, Tapestry, JUnit, JQuery

o             Servlet/JEE Containers: Tomcat

o             Build tools: Maven, Subversion, Git, Eclipse

o             Programming languages: Java, JavaScript, Perl

o             Databases: MySQL, Hibernate, JDBC, Tungsten LINUX/UNIX and Windows operating systems

•              Familiarity with Sakai preferred but not required.

•              Familiarity with Apache Tomcat.

•              Superior customer service standards and practices.

•              Experience working in a Higher Education environment a plus*
