I was reading on bio-rad.com about this other method of casting,
skipping the butanol. Have you experience with this type? Pros/cons?

It is possible to cast separation and stacking
gels one after another, with no intermediate
step requiring overlay solution (water-saturated
n-butanol). Recalculate your gel casting recipes
so that the separation gel solution contains 25%
(w/v) glycerol. Due to the significant difference
in density, the two solutions won't mix when the
stacking gel solution is carefully poured on top of
the resolving gel solution.
