The Senior SQL Server DBA will install, monitor, maintain, and manage the distributed SQL Server environment that is the foundation of RSI's SaaS solution ensuring maximum reliability, performance, and availability. This position will work closely with software developers ensuring efficient use of database resources, development of and adherence to standards, and proper SQL Server system maintenance. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.
Responsibilities
· Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers
· Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
· Database administration tasks including setup of new databases and database objects
· Managing database objects in the production environment
· Performance monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning
· Maintaining database logs and transaction logs
· Database failover/recovery, including backup and restoration
· Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets
· Work with application development staff and Technical Operations to design and implement production DB security practices and solutions
· Create and maintain user, roles and privileges within the database instances
· Work with application development staff to troubleshoot application level performance issue
· Collect and publish ongoing status reports on production bottlenecks and issues
· Automation of labor-intensive maintenance activities
· Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems
· Manage SQL Server upgrades and patches adhering to a cadence of regular upgrade schedules
· Partner with and continue to foster productive, collaborative relationships within various RSi teams to meet common and corporate goals
· Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team
Position Requirements
· Formal Education, Certification
· Bachelor's Degree in CS/Mathematics/Engineering with 7+ years in industry,
Knowledge & Experience
· Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
· 7+ years Database administration experience in a 24x7 environment
· Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server; certification (MCDBA) preferred but not required
· In-depth database tuning and troubleshooting experience
· Solid experience in database clustering and SAN technologies
· Project management experience is a plus
· Knowledge of high availability configurations for MS SQL server deployments
· Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
· Hands-on knowledge of large scale database environments for multi-Terabyte datasets
· Experience working in a Data warehouse environment , with Microsoft BI stack such as SSIS and SSAS
· Oracle experience a plus
· Experience utilizing data modeling tools
· Software development experience with VB, COM, Java, and ASP a plus
