hoi zäme,

stumbled over this.

Topic: Pan-European public outreach: exhibitions and science cafés engaging citizens in science

http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/portal/desktop/en/opportunities/h2020/topics/2416-issi-1-2014.html

seems they "officially" want to involve DIY communities in this grant. well done, whoever did some lobbying up in brussels :-)

yeah... the swiss are still not yet in the program until it starts. we got to sign some forms first and have a vote on it locally.

best,
marc

Hi Marc, all,

we have a good network of diy bio nodes here:

BiologiGaragen - Copenhagen, DK
BrmLab - Prague, CZ
Dutch DIYBio - Amsterdam, NL
IndieBiotech – Cork, IE
La Paillasse – Paris, FR
London Biohackspace – London, UK
MadLab - Manchester, UK
Pavillon 35 – Vienna, AT
Makerspace - Newcastle upon Tyne, UK
+
Finish Bio Art Society - Helsinki
Hackteria…

Others?

The call is not specifically for bio, but diy science in general.

greetings,

Lucas

hoi zäme,

i wonder if we should have a pure DIY network. or try to involve other players... and of course i'd like to go back to slovenia :-)

also i'd like to involve other groups from the balkans, such as croatia and srbia, and spain and greece... think of the beaches :-) your list seems a bit too much of the rich northern europeans.

best,
m

Marc,

Does it mean Swiss absolutely can't join the initiative now?

We are keen to set up a space around Lausanne early 2014 and being part of that would be a great deal of recognition and motivation.

I just asked some people at SNF and EU if there is a way to get around this. Maybe you have an idea already..

Cheers!

Luc

ciao henry,

there is already a space in lausanne... hope you met sachiko meanwhile and the openBioLab Aterlier HiroKouri :-)

Switzerland will have to sign the agreement and send some money, which is always done after the main framework program started. but by october 2014, it's all good.

best,
marc

hello from Greece :)

if you are thinking to involve DIY spaces (and not just DIYbio), you might want to consider hackerspace.gr [1].

I visit the place quite often and I know some of the people (though I am not a member) and we would be happy to see you in Greece :)

Side note: some of the members participated in the NASA International Space Apps Challenge for 2013, and their entry won the first place in the category "best mission concept" [2][3] :)

Well, if we're going for general DIY, not just Bio, I'm sure lots of Hackerspaces will want to be involved. I already forwarded this to our Hackerspace in Kraków, Poland, as well as some other people working on DIY science.

Open Biolab Graz Austria - Graz, AT

In contrast to Pavillion 35 in Vienna we are a real biohackerspace ;)

H2020 offers a number of call with opportunities for citizen science projects. The DIYBio network is perfectly suited for running the events and exhibitions throughout Europe, especially since dissemination is key in these calls.

This particular call is aimed at DIY practices at large and requires a broad consortium: " at least one of each of the following types of partners: research performing or funding organisations, industry / businesses, policy makers, Civil Society Organisations." I'd be happy to start probing around, and reach out to other organizations.

The funding rate is 100%, so that's great. Unfortunately the proposal template is not online yet, so it's not yet clear what exactly needs to be filled in. However, from the text you could already start deriving work packages.

Am I right that the deadline for this call is in October 2014? If so, there's plenty of time.

Cool, I didn't know diybio.be was a thing! There's also http://openwetware.org/wiki/Biolab_Brussels, although we haven't been super active yet.

Interested in get involved. Any one from Barcelona? Any guideline to participate in an "european consortium"?
