I've been reading for a few days trying to find any information on profitable projects and have yet to come up with anything solid.
So I see diybio as a mechanism for a lot of learning and a bit of fun, and partly to be free from direct commercial constraints.
As my personal experiences and skills improve, then I hope to move into biotech focused technology startups.
However, at this future point, I would consider a commercially successful diybio idea to be, really, in essence a biotech startup.
I like to characterize diybio as an "exploratory" endeavourer, whereas commercializing the ideas into biotech as it's "exploitatory" counterpart.
