Nice work!

It would be helpful if you showed the final image of the tube here
with a piece of tape installed, it took me a while of clicking back
and forth between the different pages looking for the tubes
installed/fixed in place until I read "The proper way to mount samples
is by taping them inside the taper of the 2-4 coupler, as seen here"
but there isn't actually any tape there! Did you use black electrical
tape (absorbs IR well) or clear Scotch/cello tape?
